Dear Collectors!

I would like to ask for your help in identifying the device I acquired the other day. On the internet, I found the following:
(1) The chassis is the same or similar to the Philips B3.

(2) The original chassis structure and the original tube layout may have been the same as the Hornyphon Lord.

(3) The Philips/Beseda B4 has the same tube layout, but I can't find any picture of it.

The device has apparently been converted for mains operation in a very meticulous way. Instead of KK2, KF3, KBC1, KL4 as indicated on the frame (which expect 2 V heating), the tube layout of the device is ECH4, EF9, EBC3, EL3, AZ1, and a transformer has also been added. The device itself was probably made between 1936-38, but for example the ECH4 was only released in 1940. The device has 4 tube sockets fixed with rivets (probably these are the original ones), while the socket of the AZ1 is screwed into the chassis in a place which is not shown on the drawing. On the back panel that appears to be original, the label of the Viennese "Franz Srownal Rundfunkmechanikermeister" is glued to the place that otherwise intended for the indication of the type. I could not find serial number.

Thank you in advance for all comments!

Dear Mr. Oláh,

I am almost certain this is the Beseda B4 (with 4 tubes).

It is a continuation of the Philips B3 model (with 3 tubes). Same design and identical scale.

Followed by Philips B5 (with 5 tubes).

Regards WB.

Dear Mr Bauer,

Thank you for your answer. I agree, it seems to be the most appropriate solution. While wrintig you the re-answer I started to double check the available facts, and found some new addition:

1) Why we can read "3B" on the back cover if it is a B3?

2) I observed the back cover of my device more deeply, and as the "Franz Srownal" label is very thin, the original typemark seems to be yet readable in a tricky way, it looks as: "Philips 4B"

By searching this way I could find more results on the web, for example also a picture of a Philips 4B.

Is it possible that on radiomuseum.org types B3, B4 and B5 are listed with an incorrect indication instead of 3B, 4B and 5B?

Regards,

Gábor

Dear Mr. Oláh,

I agree with you.
The Philips B3 model is marked 3B on the back panel.
I therefore suggest that the model number be changed to 3B (B3).
The schematic shows B3, so both designations should be used for the model.
Furthermore, the wavebands are incorrect.
According to the schematic, the device has LW, MW local, MW, and KW.

On your Philips Beseda B4 (4B) device, the designation 4B is legible, albeit poorly.
The designation B4 (4B) is present, but it should be reversed: 4B (B4).
Furthermore, the wavebands are incorrectly labeled according to the circuit diagram.
The device has LW, MW local, MW, and KW.

The picture on okazii.ro/philips-4b shows the same model like yours.

Regards WB.
