? westinghou: Ch= V-2133; H-188
Hi everybody,
I am in the process of re-capping a Westinghouse H-188 and all has gone well up to now, they seem to have relatively few capacitors and straightforward electrolytics.
However, one of the capacitors (0.05mfd at C7 on the schematic) is marked as "resonant" can I replace this with a standard 0.05mfd polyester capacitor, or is there something else needs to be done?
I know this is an American radio and runs on 105 - 120 volts.
Please forgive my niaive question, but I am relatively new to vintage radio restoration.
Many thanks.

resonant capacitor
Hello, Anthony,
According to TheFreeDictionary.com, “A resonant capacitor is a tubular capacitor that is wound to have inductance in series with its capacitance.” It sounds as if there is an inductor wound around the body of the capacitor, but I have never seen one so I don’t know. If you cut it open and find an inductor under the wrapper, please let me know.
Good luck,
Paul

Resonant capacitor
Hi Paul,
Many thanks for your reply.
I cut the capacitor up and it looks just like a standard waxy capacitor, no sign of any inductor windings, so I guess it should be OK to go ahead and replace with a standard modern replacement.
Cheers,
Anthony

Hello Anthony. How did you finally make out with your restore of the H-188? Did a standard capacitor work okay in replacing the 'resonant' capacitor? I just bought one of these radios at a local estate sale. I will be doing a restore on the radio.
