Does anyone know of any good sources for vintage radios in Germany? Are there any useful www. addresses?

Dear Brian

apart of eBay I´d like to suggest visiting the home page of GFGF. Unfortunately this page is in German only but if you look for "Veranstaltungshinweise" you´ll find a few bazars = "Börse" where certainly a lot of vintage radios are sold. I gather from your t-online adress that you´re based in Germany ( BFG ? ) so possibly a few "Börsen" may be in your area. You´ll find suggested data here : http://www.gfgf.org/

What specific equipment are you interested in ?

PS: Just read in your other thread where you live -> on 6th August another bazar will be held in Hoenderloo in the Netherlands. It´s near Arnhem / Zwolle and in easy reach from Duesseldorf. Been there twice and it´s worth the trip.

Regards

I am particularly interested in the Grundig 5490 and the Saba Freiburg stereos.

Be very cautious with the 5490

Brian,

Be very cautious with the 5490StU, since I am now in a "delay period" to find the M10 cast white metal cross-shaft which properly activates the master on-off switch, in addition to the FM-A portions of the circuitry. It can cause at least several hours of work, if not more. The part is not nearly as durable as some of the earlier consoles which used a similar switching arrangement.

They are wonderful units when completely functional, but can be a real challenge. Even changing one of the output transformers, takes some doing with the number of wires and the wiring of the Stereo-decoder bracket assembly.

Respectfully,
Robert

Dear Robert and Hans,

Thanks for the cautionary about the Grundig 5490. I have a few Grundigs: 1055, 2035, 4985 and a big 5088. I like them all but I am looking for something that sounds good and is fairly easy to maintain. The Saba Freiburg automatic is not without its problems either!

As for the meet at Hoenderloo, I shall be there and I will be looking for further Börsen in my area.
