  • Notes
  • The "Abbiphone" Wavemeter was a compact, portable test instrument. First exhibited at Stand 85 of the All-British Wireless Exhibition at White City in November 1923 and retailed for £1 17s 6d, it allowed broadcast listeners and experimenters to tune receiving sets quickly without searching across the dial.

Housed in a polished mahogany case with a hinged lid, the instrument featured an internal calibration chart and an integral battery-driven buzzer. Operation was straightforward: the user set the calibrated wavemeter dial to the target BBC station wavelength, switched on the internal buzzer, and tuned their receiver until the audio buzz reached maximum volume in the headphones or loudspeaker.
