  The Aiwa XP‑SP920 is a late‑1990s portable compact disc player designed for playback of standard CD‑DA audio discs. It follows the established Aiwa XP‑series architecture, using a lightweight top‑loading chassis with a single‑beam optical pickup and 1‑bit digital‑to‑analogue conversion. The unit incorporates Aiwa’s electronic anti‑shock memory system, which buffers audio data to reduce skipping during portable use. Playback information is shown on a segment‑type LCD providing track number, elapsed time, and mode indicators.

  The mechanical assembly uses the DA23LH optical pickup mechanism, a common Aiwa transport of the period, mounted on a compact plastic sub‑chassis with spring isolation.
