  • Für dieses Modell Apex 99-A aus den USA hatte die Firma Kaiser & Co AG in Bern die Generalvertretung. Das Modell stammt eigentlich von 1931 mit Preis 390.--, doch in der Verkaufsbroschüre mit Titel "1933 Das Beste in Radio" im Namen Hs. Reinhard in Kriens auf dem Titelblatt zeigt dieses Modell und weitere 9. Innen findet sich eine Preisliste, die bestätigt, dass eigentlich Kaiser & Co AG in Bern die Generalvertretung für diese Marke besitzt. Dann beträgt der Preis Fr. 375.--. US Preis war 40 $.

    Erstaunlich sind die Preisunterschiede zwischen der Schweiz und den USA. Beispielsweise für das Modell 236-A von American Bosch zahlte man in den USA = 45.95 $ im Jahr 1932 und in der Schweiz Fr. 425.--. Hier sind es 49 $ zu Fr. 525. Schaltung und Gehäuse sind gleich wie in den USA, doch ausgestattet mit einem Transformer für 220 V und 50 Hz.

    US Radio & Television brochure: "The Gloritone 99A was manufactured by the United States Radio and Television Corporation of Marion, Indiana.

    The 99A is an ac-powered set that covers the standard broadcast band and uses 5 tubes: 224 (mixer/LO), 235 (IF), 224 (2nd detector), 247 (AF pentode), and 280 (rectifier). The mixer/LO uses a self-oscillating "autodyne" circuit. This was done to combine the operations of the mixer and oscillator into a single tube, thereby minimizing tube count and keeping production costs down. This was a fairly common practice in economy sets of the era. The radio has no Automatic-Volume-Control (AVC) and has its manual volume control placed within the antenna circuit. This same chassis was used for both the 99A table model and the 99B floor model radios."
