  • This peak audio limiter was inserted before the transmitter audio input to limit the peak audio program levels thus reducing the risk of introducing audible distortion due to waveform clipping by over modulation of the transmitter.

    The function of this equipment is probably what is now referred to as Audio Compression, and is a way of boosting the apparent volume of the transmitted signal without causing over modulation.
