  • Notes
  •  Field test set FT13C is an automated equipment which enables one semi-skilled technician to check an aircraft VHF Omnidirectional Range (VOR) / Instrument Landing System (ILS) installation in situ, in approximately seventeen minutes. In addition, a manual facility provides 1° change in VOR bearing in accordance with current Air Registration Board recommendations.

When the ' automatic ' facility is used, the equipment, which is fitted with telescopic aerials, is simply placed in the vicinity of the nose of the aircraft so that it can be seen from the pilot's seat. The test set then runs through a complete programme of up to 71 tests, commencing with marker signal and proceeding through VOR localizer and glide path channels. On each test a fixed carrier and modulation level is radiated. The state of the programme is indicated by a brilliant illuminated figure, which can easily be seen from a distance of 50ft in bright sunlight.
