  • Notes
  • Precision ACE "Double Decker" consisting of the Precision Equipment ACE TRU Concert Receptor receiver with an ACE AV2 Two-Stage Audio Amplifier as a hinged lid.

This "Double Decker" set came out after Crosley had purchased the Precision Equipment Company to acquire the Armstrong Regenerative patent. Crosley had excess unsold Precision inventory on hand to get rid of and I think this set was an attempt to clear some of the excess out.

The TRU and AV2 were advertised at a discounted price in the April, 1923 Radio Broadcast and Popular Radio magazines. Apparently the AV2 on this set was redesigned with more of a "Crosley" look with the chrome tube viewing holes instead of the small holes of the earlier version in the catalog cut. ACE tube sockets and audio transformers were still used. I know from period advertising that Precision had quite an inventory of the TRU sets in stock when Crosley took over. The ACE TRU must have been really hard to sell even at the $35 discounted price tag when Crosley was, in the same advertisement, selling the comparable Crosley V for a $20 price tag.
