The Cybernet SDC-80 dual cassette recorder is a high-fidelity stereo tape deck produced in the late 1970s, designed for both audio enthusiasts and professional applications in home systems.
Technical Description
The centrepiece of the Cybernet SDC-80 is its dual independent stereo cassette decks—Deck A and Deck B—which facilitate one-touch tape dubbing, compiling, and mixed recording. Deck A is dedicated to playback, while Deck B allows both playback and recording, including the unique ability to perform mixed recordings utilising inputs from microphones, external line sources, or material from Deck A.Audio Features
- Dolby™ Noise Reduction: Deck B is equipped with a Dolby™ noise reduction system under license from Dolby™ Laboratories, improving fidelity and minimizing tape hiss during playback and recording.
- Tape Selector Switches: Both decks include tape selectors, optimizing bias and equalization for all popular cassette tape types, including metal, ferrochrome, chromium-dioxide, and normal tapes.
Controls and Indicators
- Full Auto-Stop: Ensures both playback and recording stop at the end of the tape to prevent tape damage.
- Timer Control: Supports automated recording or playback when connected to an external timer device.
- Separate Recording Level Controls: Deck B features concentric knobs for precise adjustment of input and dubbing levels for left and right channels.
- Fluorescent Level Indicators: Dual-channel meters provide real-time visualization of audio levels during recording and playback.
Connectivity
- Line In/Out and DIN Connections: Enables integration into hi-fi stereo setups via standard RCA pin jacks or alternative DIN jacks for both input and output.
- Microphone Inputs: Left and right channel jacks support individual microphone feeds, offering versatility for live recordings.
- Headphone Output: Allows private monitoring or recording oversight, giving users control over sound quality in real time.
