Square cross-section box with wire and terminal, or some years two terminals. Apperance is easily confused with Dry Cell O (larger), T (smallest) and Battery R1662 (smaller). There are at least four models of square cross-section 1.5V cells.
Mainly Instruments, bells, flags and phones as it pre-dates 1.4V filament valves/tubes.
