  • A Cylindrical Zinc Carbon cell very popular size "AA"  (yes there was a larger "A" cell) with 2 or 4 used in many Transistor Radios.

    Used prior to WWI (1914) in "Penlight" torches (issued to Soldiers in WWI), so called as a "fountain" ink pen is a similar size. The "AA" name for the size was adopted about 1945.

    Useful to replace "layer cells" in larger 1950s Radio H.T. Battery replicas.

    Current generic brands may be lower capacity due to two hollow bungs (one is enough) instead of tar & card seal. Weight is modern model. Original U7 probably heavier.
