  • One of the largest single cell Zinc Carbon type ever made. There may be one larger cell.

    Cylindrical.

    Connection type: Two screw terminals, or later one screw terminal and a wire.

    Used for:
    Railway signalling (possibly 36 in series), Summoning servant system ( "Flags" with a number for each room and a bell in a box connected to bell push in each room). Phone systems. Marconi  TF933A & Marconi TF933B humidity detectors.

    Modern replacements (2012) may consist of parallel Alkaline D cells sometimes in a rectangular  75 x 143 x  43mm carton.

    An "ignition" or Gas lighter cell is similar but without terminals. The stem with glow wire screws direct to the top.
