  • Notes
  • This Zinc Carbon pack uses 4 x "F" cells internally and is currently cheaply available from Eveready (2012) who bought Ever Ready about 10 years after the hostile takeover by Hanson Trust.

It has a outer spring (+) and centre spring (-). variously been relabelled as PJ996 and P996. Some "compatible" brands only contain 4 x "D" cells and packing. Energiser provide a 996 adaptor that takes 4 x D cells with some torches.

The current low cost of P996 provides a cheap source of "F" cells for authentic combo and LT battery packs such as AD3 or AD4

The larger "Lantern Battery" with two screw terminals is actually equivalent to 2 x 996 in parallel containing actually 8 x "F" cells in Series & Parallel.
