  • NOTE: This is a generic model page for the P-797 family of radio's.  P-797 is an incomplete model number, with complete model numbers being P-797A, P-797B, P-797C or P-797D.  Please load pictures to the proper model page.  PLEASE DO NOT LOAD PICTURES TO THIS MODEL PAGE!!

This model is part of the P-795, P-796, P-797 and P-798 family of models, which have the same cabinet but have different colors.  The various letters behind each model number indicate the circuit differences.

The schematic for models P795, P796 and P797 is the same. They use transistors 2N168A, 2N135, 2N293, 2N192 and 2N241A plus one diode 1N64G or 1N87A. See also the later versions with a suffix A, B, C, D, where the three numbers share also the same schematic but the models use different semiconductors. The journal "The Billboard", January 12, 1959, announces that GE adds 6 new radio models: The P-795, P-796 and P-797 are included in this announcement - the price $ 39.95. The cases, of saddle stitched simulated leather with a contrasting grille in high impact plastic, are available in black and white for model P-795, blue and white for P-796 and beige and cocoa for P-797. The schematic in Beitmans Vol. 20, page 59 shows the models without hyphen.
