HQ-110 / HQ-110 C

Hammarlund model HQ-110 C features a clock-timer.

Hammarlund's first "ham-bands-only" receiver with dual-conversion.  The HQ-110 directly covered the 160 to 6 meter amateur radio bands.  The 40 through 6 meter bands used dual conversion and the 80 and 160 meter bands single conversion. A 100 kHz calibrator was standard equipment as was the Q-multiplier. IF frequencies were 3035 kHz and 455 kHz  using a crystal-controlled 2.58 MHz oscillator.

There were two very different IF transformer types as the manufacturing progressed.

The oldest HQ-110 used two separate IF transformers, T1 and T2, one for just the 3035 kHz IF signal and the other for just the 455 kHz.  However, in a later version, T1 and T2 were each being used for passing both IF frequencies. That later version had both the 455 and the 3035 windings in each of the transformers with a third winding feeding the signal from T1 to T2. The later T1 carries B+ and is a known problem spot with breakdown of the exposed silver mica internal capacitor(s). There are several different schematics with the last HQ-110 approaching that of the later HQ-110A schematic. The HQ-170 used the same dual frequency IF transformers.

The clock was an optional accessory at an additonal $10.  If installed, the model number added a "C" suffix.

A modification to add an inline power fuse is suggested by those who have restored these sets.
