  • The Heathkit GD-18 is a vintage electronic siren kit designed for use in emergency and service vehicles. Introduced in the spring 1970 catalog, it features functions for Wail, Yelp, public address (PA), and radio broadcast amplification.

    Controls and Features:
    The front panel is made of edge-lit plastic for visibility in dark conditions and includes: 
    PA/Radio Gain: Combined with an integrated Off-On switch. 
    Function Switch: A four-position dial to select between Radio, PA, Wail, and Yelp. 
    Manual Button: Allows for manual siren activation while in PA mode. 
    Adjustments: Screwdriver-accessible controls on the bottom allow for Siren Pitch and Radio Input Level adjustments.

    GD-18 SPECIFICATIONS:  Siren Output Power: 55 watts, normal intermittent duty.
    PA or Radio Output Power: 20 watts continuous. Wail Frequency Range: Approx. 550 Hz to 1300 Hz (pitch control at center). Wail Sweep Rate: Approx. 6 sec. per cycle.
    Yelp Sweep Rate: Approx. 4% sec. per cycle. Radio Input Sensitivity: 0.3 volts RMS
    min. for rated output. Speaker Requirements: 16 ohm, 75 watt (nominal) weatherproof, horn loaded driver. Controls: Gain (PA and Radio); manual siren button (in PA only); Function selector switch; provision for external remote manual siren switches; Siren pitch adjust; Radio input level adjust. Power Requirements: 12 to 15 VDC, pos. or neg. ground; 5.5 amp. max. Idle Current: 1.25 amp. or less. Dimensions: 7-5/8” D x 8-3/8” W x 2-13/16" H (less gimbal bracket). Finish: Gunmetal gray, wrinkle finish.

    Choice of speakers; either concealed or exposed horn. Concealed speaker requires      4.5” x 4.5" x 13" behind grille, Put the GD-18 system in your authorized emergency vehicle.
