  • Nuvistor triode preamplifier for a 30 MHz receiver.

    Centre frequency 30 MHz.
    Bandwidth 200 kHz.
    Input and output by link coupling. Impedance 75 ohms.
    Input and output circuits tuned by ferrite cored inductors.
    Neutralisation adjusted by air dielectric trimmer capacitor.
    The preamplifier is powered from the receiver.

    Built in an Eddystone die cast box.

    RCA unveiled the nuvistor in 1959, and for a time it remained competitive with transistors for high frequency and high temperature applications. They were the final stage of valve miniaturisation that had progressed since the 1920s.
