The Icom IC‑40G is a 40‑channel UHF FM handheld transceiver designed for the Australian 476–477 MHz CB Radio Service. It represents a major technological step forward from the earlier IC‑40, incorporating improved ergonomics, higher RF output, memory channels, scanning functions, and repeater capability.

The instruction manual describes it as “the most advanced C.R.S. handheld transceiver” of its time, featuring 5 W output power, 40 operational channels, 12 memory channels, scan and dual‑watch, repeater operation, and optional 5‑tone selective calling via the Sigtec S1515/01 plug‑in module.

Historical Notes
The IC‑40G was released around 1989–1990, during the rapid expansion of UHF CB in Australia. It quickly became known for its durability and strong RF performance, and was widely used by 4WD clubs, rural users, and commercial operators.

Its feature set — especially memory channels, scanning, and repeater support — placed it above competing GME and Uniden handhelds of the same period.
