  • Anotaciones
  • Kellar Electronics' KDB3 Noise Reduction Unit simplifies the Dolby B experience for home recordists while offering a valuable addition: an FM notch filter. This filter eliminates unwanted interference from FM radio signals that can sometimes be picked up by tape recorders.

    KDB3 Specifications:

    • Simplified Controls: Featuring two-line inputs controlled by a single master record control lever, the KDB3 prioritizes ease of use. It also has two-line outputs with a 10dB switchable attenuator for adjusting signal level.
    • Comprehensive Metering: Complete metering facilities for both recording and playback allow users to monitor signal levels during the recording process.
    • Built-in Oscillator: A 400Hz oscillator is integrated for calibration and performance checks.

    Technical Specifications:

    • Record section input sensitivity: 25 mV for Dolby level at 20 kΩ
    • FM notch filtering: 19 kHz and 38 kHz to prevent interference
    • Frequency response: 20 Hz to 15 kHz ±1dB, 19 kHz -36 dB
    • Output to tape recorder inputs: 580mV for 25mV input (adjustable by record/calibrate controls) with a minimum load of 5 kΩ

KDB1 & KDB2: Additional Options for Noise Reduction

Kellar Electronics offers two other Dolby B Noise Reduction Units catering to different needs:

    • KDB1: Ideal for home recorders with a combined record/replay head, the KDB1 features a record/replay switch for user convenience.
    • KDB2: Designed for professional-grade tape recorders with separate record and playback heads (commonly found in three-head machines), the KDB2 boasts two completely separate record and playback channels. This critical feature allows for real-time monitoring of the recording through the playback head while the recording is still in progress on the separate record head. This is a significant advantage for professional users who can adjust recording parameters based on the monitored output. Additionally, the KDB2 offers full two-channel operation for stereo recordings.

    Choosing the Right KDB Unit:

    • KDB1: Best for home recorders with a combined record/replay head.
    • KDB2: Ideal for professional users with three-head machines and a desire for real-time recording monitoring.
    • KDB3: Perfect for users seeking a streamlined Dolby B experience with FM notch filtering, suitable for both home recordists and professionals who value user-friendliness while maintaining high-fidelity performance.
