  • A new world of sound has been created—a world of sound in its natural environment—
    4-Channel Sound. Lafayette's SQR-40 permits you to enjoy this startling new listening experience. The SQR-40 is an advanced 4-channel receiver consisting of an AM/FM Stereo Tuner, an SQ Decoder, a 4-Channel/2-Channel 8-Track Tape Cartridge Player, and 4 separate amplifiers in one unit, plus 4 separate speakers in attractive walnut wood enclosures. 4-Channel sound is available on SQ records, 8 track tapes, and over the air via SQ FM broadcasts. The SQR-40 reproduces all of this source material, as well as all modes of 2-channel stereo. The SQR-40 reproduces discrete 4-channel sound from 8-track tape cartridges through its 4- and 2-channel 8-track player. It has built-in SQ Decoder circuitry for reproducing the 4 separate channels on the new SQ records developed by Columbia. This SQ Decoder circuitry also permits the SQR-40 to receive FM SQ stereo broadcasts. 4 dimensional sound can also be derived from conventional 2-channel material—records, tape (reel, cartridge, and cassette), or FM stereo broadcasts from the SQR-40's exclusive "Composer" circuitry.

    Full flexibility of operation has also been built-in to this system. It includes 4-channel "Aux" inputs for connecting an external 4-channel program source (i.e. reel recorder); record output jacks; 4 separate volume slide lever controls (Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right); FM Stereo indicator light, separate Bass & Treble controls, stereo headphone jack; provisions for connecting a record changer with ceramic or magnetic cartridge; and built-in AM and FM antennas, with provisions for an external FM antenna. Magnificent wide-range sound is provided through its 4 separate walnut wood speaker systems, each containing a powerful 6½" high-compliance speaker. Each Front speaker is supplied with
    8 ft. of cable with plug; the Rear speakers each come with 25 ft. of cable with plug. An AC convenience outlet is provided on the rear panel. Size: Receiver Section, 21½W x 11⅛D x 4⅝"H. Each Speaker System, 8½W x 14½H x 5½"D. For 117 VAC, 60 Hz. Imported.
