Operates entirely from auto battery.
No more worries about run down "B" batteries or weak signals! The new Lafayette Six-Volt Portable Amplifier entirely self-contained and ready to operate—always works at full efficiency. Only source of power required is six volt storage battery such as used in all cars. Draws only eight amperes—less than the headlights—and therefore does not involve any changes whatsoever in the car's electrical system. Compare this economy of operation with the current drains of 18 and 20 amperes of previous amplifiers of this kind.
The filaments of the six tubes are run directly on six volts. Plate current is supplied by a special generator, entirely closed in and requiring no special attention. No vibrating points to stick or burn out. Plate voltage is constant, amplification at maximum at all times.
Advanced design of circuit is responsible for unprecedented gain of 85 db. Six tubes are used: one type 36 as voltage amplifier, feeding one type 89 pentode driver, in turn working into four type 89s in Class "B" push-pull parallel. Output of 10 watts is enough to cover large outdoor crowds. These tubes are extremely rugged and are made especially for rough automobile service.
Connections are provided for quick connection of six-volt dynamic speaker field coils, and also for the local microphone current supply. One of the features of this amplifier is a voice coil impedance matching switch, controlled by a small knob on the front of the chassis. This enables the user of the amplifier to adjust the output most satisfactorily to the particular loud speaker or combination of speakers that he intends to use. Maximum output efficiency is thus maintained under all normal operating conditions.
