Lafayette Engineers have again done the seemingly impossible! A complete Theater Amplifier with ALL the latest features in a unit measuring only 14 ½" by 8¾." by 9" high! It has EVERYTHING other larger Theater Amplifiers have —and then some! For instance .. it has two photo-cell inputs with separate voltage control for each cell! ... it has a separate sound on disc or microphone input with a switch to change over from photo-cell to mike input instantaneously! ... it has exciter lamp supply for either 8 volt lamps at 4 amps. or 10 volt lamps at 7.5 amps! ... it has connections for two separate exciter lamps (two projectors) and a switch for connecting either projector at will! ... it has a separate exciter current supply switch to cut of the exciter lamps when mike or disc pickup is used! ... it has both volume and tone controls! ... it has a fused A. C. line ... it has ALL terminals accessible from the FRONT of the amplifier! ... it has field supply for either one 1000 ohm 10 watt field or two 2000 ohm 5 watt fields for speakers! ... and it has a compensated "low frequency cut-of" response that makes it the finest amplifier you ever heard for portable talking picture machines!
Despite its compactness that makes it possible to mount the complete amplifier in a very small carrying case it has a very conservatively rated output of 15 watts with a peak output of 20 watts! The special Lafayette designed circuit used in this amplifier makes use of the following tubes; one type 57, one type 53, two type 2B6's and one type 5Z3. An average gain of 94 db. is realized with a specially compensated frequency response curve having a low frequency cut-off. It is -10db at 40 cycles, plus 3 db. at 1000 cycles and -3 db. at 8000 cycles. A special model for use with 16 m.m. film is also available. In addition a tone control is included to modify the high frequency response if desired.
The particular problems arising in operating a portabie projector have been carefully studied by Lafayette Engineers with the result that a special type of construction is used. All terminals, switches, controls and the fuse are at the front of the amplifier so that it may be mounted into a case and yet permit access to all controls. A special screen cover protects the tubes against damage and loss. All construction throughout is rigid to withstand the unavoidable rough usage that portable equipment is bound to be subjected to.
A choice of output impedances of 2-4-8-15 and 500 ohms is available. Field current for one 1000 ohm field at 10 watts or two 2000 ohm fields at 5 watts is also available. Input impedances are of course for the photo-cells and for a high impedance pickup or for a matching transformer when used with low impedance pickups and microphones. Amplifier is supplied complete with two special "low capacity" shielded cables with plugs for attaching photo-cells to the amplifier, and a cover for the amplifier. Overall dimensions (knobs included) are 14 ½" long, 8 ¾" deep and 9" high. Finished in black crystallized lacquer both inside and out.
