The Lafyette Wide-Range TRF Tuner has been designed to meet the demand for a comparatively low-priced wide-band unit capable of providing sensitivity and selectivity characteristics. Seven tubes are used, all but the tuning indicator being the latest all-metal types. Tubes are used as follows: 3-6K7's as r.f. amplifiers, 1-6H6 as diode detector and a.v.c. tube, 1-6C5 as audio amplifier, I-5Z4 rectifier and I-6E5 cathode-ray tuning indicator. The range of the tuner is from 550 to 1600 kc. (1137.5 to 545 meters). Power supply is built in for 110-volt, 50/60-cycle a.c. operation. Selectivity is rated at 1000 times 97 kc. wide—this is unusual in a tuner of this type, and is indicative of the superlative design. Stations can be easily separated over the full range of the dial. Sensitivity without side-band cutting is in the order of 15 microvolts absolute as compared with the average 200 to 250. The a.v.c. circuit is comparable to that of similar circuits in superhet tuners, and provides a full swing on the 6E5 cathode-ray tuning indicator. A sensitivity control on the front panel enables the operator to cut out the a.v.c. action in order to obtain maximum fidelity with minimum side-band noise. A manual volume control is provided, and is governed from the front panel. Two output impedances are provided. One is 50,000 ohms, the other 500 ohms. The output level is sufficiently high for use in conjunction with amplifiers having as little as 50 db gain.
Model 1004-TP Lafayette Wide-Range T.R.F. Tuner with panel for standard 19" rack mounting. Less tubes. For 110-volt, 50/60 cycle a.c. $54.90 USD.
Model 1005-TP Latayette Wide-Range T R.F. Tuner chassis only, for cabinet mounting. Less tubes. For 110-volt, 50/60-cycle a.c. $49.90 USD.
