The Macitone Valvestat was a combined valve‑holder and filament rheostat. The unit is well‑constructed, with a sound mechanical design and good overall finish. A single moulding forms both the valve‑holder base and the body of the resistance assembly.
The resistance element is wound on a flat insulating strip which is clamped around the outside of the moulding. The contact spring is neatly engineered, operates smoothly, and is secured to the plain spindle by an adjustable collar and grub screw.
The Valvestat was available with either a 6‑ohm resistance for bright‑emitter valves or 30‑ohm for dull‑emitters.
