- Notes
-
The Coherer was the first active device that was used by the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company to detect radio frequency signal from spark transmitters. It consists a glass tube fitted with two silver plugs forming angled electrodes with a narrow gap between them filled with metal filings. The Marconi Coherer used a very small quantity of nickel filings to which was added a small percentage of silver. The glass tube was mounted to an ivory rod so the striker had a place to hit when decohereing the coherer.
