  • The model 56T1 is Motorola's first transistor portable. It has a metal case, but the handle is made in plastic to serve as antenna. See also the models 56T1A and this one with the same case. Pull the volume control knob from front of the radio for chassis removal. There is a tuning knob retaining screw. After the tuning knob is removed the chassis mounting screw is visible.

    Differences among chassis 483, 553 and 554:

    1) V2-V3: in 483 V2 may be 2N146 or 2N147 and V3 may be 2N146 or 2N145.

    In 553 and 554 V2=V3=2N145.

    2) Diode E3 only in 554 (missing in 483 and 553).

    3) Resistor R8: only in 483 (missing in 553 and 554).

    4) Resistor R13: in 483 and 554 (missing in 553).

    5) Capacitor C18: in 553 and 554 (missing in 483).
