  • First commercial transceiver using integrated circuits (custom Motorola, one in IF of rx, one in audio processing of tx). Available in VHF (136-174 MHz) and UHF (406-512 MHz). Two thicknesses, "slim line" (1.23" plus antenna) and "omni housing" (1.8") were made, and two heights, carrier-squelch (8") and "PL" (Private Line, tone squelch, 7" tall). Standard version has one or two channels (separate receive and transmit crystals), up to 6 channels with a rotary selector switch. Uses rechargeable NiCd or nonrechargeable Hg or alkaline battery. Available with internal speaker/mic, remote speaker/mic, and "universal" (detachable remote speaker/mic.) May special "SP" versions made including transmit-only in red case for personal alarms, "Converta-Com" model with contacts on front for vehicle charer/interface, different kinds of tone squelch, etc. Many aftermarket vendors of synthesizers, scanner adapters, multi-frequency kits, etc.
