    The converter is connected in series with the car antenna and the car radio. When the FM listening is selected, the FM channel's audio output is used to AM modulate a fixed (quiet) frequency that the AM car radio is tuned to. Usually, the converter will have a tuning slug or similar device to adjust the broadcast frequency to a quiet spot.
