  • Notes
  • Tape recorder MX5500, classified by Otari as a Compact Professional unit. It uses magnetic tape with ¼" width and accepts reels of 7" of diameter; provides two tape speeds: 3 3/4 ips and 7.5 ips. It is well built, robust, with three motors, and some facilities as echo, sound on sound, adjustable bias, etc. It is a heavy recorder that weighs about 22 kg, enclosed in a robust box made in wood aluminum and inox steel. Tape recorder controller is made with relays and a remote control socket is available.

MX5500 uses transistors and integrated circuits.

This machine seems to be a low cost version of the MX55 Otari series, but seems that Otari sold very few units.
