  • Notes
  • Home 8‑track recorder/player sold in the early 1970s. The RS‑855US provides 2‑channel stereo recording on standard endless‑loop cartridges and 4‑channel playback when used with quadraphonic tapes and a suitable amplifier or receiver. The model was marketed in some U.S. retail catalogues under the “The Powell.”
The deck includes program indicator lamps, two VU meters, microphone inputs, auxiliary line inputs, and four line‑level outputs for quad playback. Transport functions include continuous play, fast‑forward, program selection, and manual eject. A stereo headphone output is provided for monitoring. The cabinet is finished in walnut‑style veneer with a silver/black front panel typical of Panasonic’s early‑1970s design.
Frequency response is specified to extend to approximately 12 kHz, consistent with consumer 8‑track performance of the period.
