- Remarques
-
The Peto Scott Trophy 6 was a communication-type superheterodyne receiver, designed for serious amateur and semi-professional use. It featured four valves plus a rectifier and a beat frequency oscillator (BFO), with a price of £10 19s. 6d. (or £12 9s. 6d. with vibrator provision for battery operation).
Note:
There is no evidence in the information available to date to suggest that the Trophy 6 was produced in collaboration with or under the BTS brand, unlike earlier Trophy models.Wave Ranges
The receiver covers four continuous, overlapping wavebands:- 46–15 Mc/s (6.5–20 metres)
- 17–5.5 Mc/s (17.65–54.5 metres)
- 5.5–1.7 Mc/s (54.5–176.5 metres)
- 1700–550 kc/s (176.5–545 metres)
Circuit Design
- Front End:
- A single tuned circuit is placed before the triode-hexode frequency changer (mixer/oscillator), inductively coupled to the aerial.
- There is provision for a doublet aerial system to maximize efficiency on a chosen wavelength.
- Intermediate Frequency (IF) Stage:
- Single IF amplifier stage.
- Iron-cored input transformer and air-cored output transformer.
- Automatic Volume Control (AVC) is derived from a common load resistance after filtering, with delayed action.
- AVC voltage is applied to the frequency changer and IF stage on all bands but can be switched off for weak signals or Morse reception.
- On the highest frequency band (6.5–20 metres), IF valve bias is reduced for additional gain.
- Detection and Audio:
- Signal rectification via a single diode (anodes strapped).
- Triode section of the detector is resistance-coupled to a tetrode output valve.
- Switch jack in output circuit allows headphone use through a condenser, with the output transformer’s primary acting as a choke.
- Power Supply:
- AC mains operation; optional vibrator unit for 6V battery operation (delivers 70 mA at 250V).
- Filaments fed directly; HT current smoothed by loudspeaker field.
- Decoupling provided only for the screens of the frequency changer and IF valves.
- Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO):
- Included for Morse code (CW) reception.
- Front panel adjustment for local oscillator to set BFO beat to user preference.
- Bandspread Tuning:
- Two-gang bandspread condenser added to the main tuning condenser.
- Bandspread dial allows fine, precise tuning, especially on shortwave.
