The Philips Radioplayer No. 1401, 5 valve, AC powered, TRF receiver was designed by Mr. Y. B. F. J. Groeneveld, Chief Engineer of Philips Lamps (A/asia) Ltd. in August 1931.
Description:
There are four valves and a rectifier. Two E442 type screen grids are radio frequency amplifiers, an E442S screen grid is operating as a power-grid detector, feeding into a C443 (300 volt) pentode. The rectifier is a 506. A single tuning control is fitted with a volume control, and a local-distance switch for taming the set down sufficiently for quiet reception of local stations. Terminals are provided for either a dynamic or magnetic speaker, and also for a gramophone pick-up.
