Für den Pioneer PL-740 Quartz-Direct Drive Full-Automatic Stereo Plattenspieler sprach seinerzeit das Moving Coil Tonabnehmersystem PC-5MC mit hoher Ausgangsspannung. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Moving Coil Systemen kann die Nadel PN-5MC durch den Anwender ausgewechselt werden.

Toannehmersystem PC-5MC mit Permanentmagneten
Nadel PN-5MC, Nadelträger und Nadel durch unvorsichtige Reinigung abgebrochen
Weil die Nadel offensichtlich abgekündigt ist wurde nach Original-Lagerware gesucht. Ergebnis: In USA für $98 plus Fracht plus Importabgaben, in Australien für $198 netto.
Als schneller und preiswerter Ersatz wurde das Ortofon OM5 ausgewählt um das Pioneer System zu ersetzen
Weil das Pioneer System eingebaute Gewinde für die Montageschrauben hat, waren die mit dem Ortofon gelieferten Schrauben zu kurz für den nicht dem Standard entsprechenden Tonarmkopf. Zum Glück waren längere Schrauben zur Hand. Abschliessend wurde der Tonarm ausbalanciert, und der Besitzer freut sich.

A major advantage of the Pioneer PL-740 Quartz-Direct Drive Full-Automatic Stereo Turntable is it's high output moving coil cartridge PC-5MC. Other than common moving coil cartridges, the stylus PN-5MC is customer replaceable. Details:

The original stylus is obviously discontinued. Searching the web resultet in two NOS sources: One in USA (price $98 plus freight plus VAT), the other one in Australia (net price $198).
To get forward faster and with lower cost, Ortofon OM5 was choosen to replace the Pioneer cartridge.
As the Pioneer cartridge has built-in threads for the mounting screws, the screws coming with the Ortofon catridge was too short to fit the thick non-standard headshell. Longer screws was fortunately on hand. Finally the tone arm was new balanced, and the owner is happy now.
