- Notes
- Red Flag 红旗 model 701 has been sold with a nice leather case and ear phone incl pocket for it. An external antenna can be plugged in also. Reception is broadcast from 530 to 1605 kc and short waves from 3.9 to 12 mc. It has also tone control. This model had first the designation 27A but for the "leap forward" in respect of Mao it was rebranded Hongqi 701 (Red Flag) - like some other models - from other manufacturers. We do not know yet if this model has been manufactured by several manufacturers. If yes, only insiders can normally tell which one made it - and only by looking at the parts inside.
Checking by the schematics one can see that inside there are differences between 27A and 701. See for instance first AF transistor connection.

The model Red Flag 红旗 701 or Honqi 红旗 701 in Chinese was first made as model Meiduo 美多 sometimes also called Metto 美多 which can also mean "much beautiful" or "much America". Quite some names had been changed in the time of 1966, the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution". Mao, a very idealistic leader, used his personal influence to call up youngsters to throw up the government (the so called capitalist). These youngsters called themselves revolutionist (Revolution guard) and changed almost every name to show their loyalty to Mao. You might remember "the red booklet" from that time.
In the manufacturer history you will find a notice how it came that the name was changed. Later, when the radio catalog for China is more complete, I hope to establish a link to the other models of the same make but different brand.
