Pressman TCM-59V

Compact mono cassette recorder positioned near the top of Sony’s Pressman/TCM range. Provides automatic auto‑reverse playback (manual reverse during recording), voice‑operated recording (VOR), variable‑speed playback, tape counter, and a flat electret microphone built into the cassette door. Two rear‑mounted mono loudspeakers provide higher output than typical compact recorders of similar size.

Mechanism uses two flywheels rotating in the same direction, with auto‑reverse achieved by reversing the motor, allowing full electronic control. Auto‑reverse sensing is via a reflective optical sensor monitoring reel rotation.

A stereo playback/record head wired in mono is used due to the scarcity of true mono auto‑reverse heads. Erasure is performed by two erase heads, one for each direction, switched according to tape travel. Pause is automatically cancelled when Stop is pressed, and tape direction can be changed while the mechanism is stationary, returning to forward when the cassette door is opened.

Suitable for business dictation and general portable recording; playback is mono only.
