Hello,
The Greek PRC-6/E was a redesigned PRC-6 by a “Greek Geek” working in a Greek Army lab named 306 EBT.
So the design and the manufacturer should be assigned to that lab 306 EBT.
The "Greek geek" was named Elpidoforos Ferris.
His design was using components well knows by amateur radio, like the SO42P, the TBA120S and the TAA611C.
From then on, the valves version (PRC-6) stopped being repaired (lack of batteries) - but they remained stacked in the warehouse without being sold, as if they were waiting for something.
But the reality was that there was a lack of handy transmitter available in the Greek Army, despite of few PRC-68.
It was then decided, to investigate the extend of the life of the old PRC-6 with a new construction/retrofit .
And the solution was found thanks to a quite eccentric technician in the army lab. Perhaps a radio amateur ? :D
The Greek army radio lab "306 EBT" was ready to do something like this.
306th Telecommunications Depot Maintenance (306 EBT), is based at Acharnes, Attica
They decided to retrofit about 1.000 old PRC-6 renamed PRC-6/E.
The modified radio was solid state, one channel, with 1W HF power.
The carbon microphone cell was kept in the design.
The IF was set to 4.3Mz to avoid interferences with 10.7Mhz IF oscillators.
The quartz is in overtone 3 with Fxtal : Foutput - 4.3Mhz
The Greek army refused to credit Elpidoforos Ferris as the designer, so he did not write any Technical Manual.
He decided to quit the Army, leaving the 306EBT without documents.
Fortunately, the circuits are using quite classic components for the period.
This is one of the easiest military radio to restart, as it uses 12 to 16V batteries. It just needs the contacts and the grounding to be cleanedup and it restarts right away.
As usual revive the carbon mic cell by shaking it.
