  • Portable Midget Gives Large-Set Performance

The remarkable and rapid development of the battery portable, following the introduction of the new 1.4-volt valves, is clearly evidenced in the new Velco Midget Portable, for which A. J. Veall (Agencies) Pty., Ltd., of 127 York Street, are the N.S.W. distributors.

In sensitivity, selectivity, tone, and volume the Velco Midget Portable leaves little to be desired.

A self-contained aerial, built into the carrying case, provides a sufficient pick-up of up to 50 to 60 miles, and if greater distances or increased volume are required, an external aerial may be attached to a small wood screw at the top left-hand side of the cabinet, and earth to the metal thread screw on the bottom left-hand side looking from the back of the cabinet.

An external aerial and earth performance then becomes equal of a standard four-valve battery set.

With an “A” battery consumption of only 250 mA and “B” drain of but 7.5 mA, the Velco Midget is economical for a portable using small batteries so necessary when size and weight are factors to be considered.

The cost of operation, even with these small batteries, is approximately two pence per hour, an amount that few will begrudge for the wonderful convenience and entertainment that is experienced by the use of the Velco Midget cabinet covered in a patterned canvas/cloth and leather strap carrying handle.
