  • Notes
  • The "Bruno" 99 Tuner, marketed by Wholesale Wireless Co., underwent testing by The Wireless Engineer with good results.

Designed for shortwave reception (20-100 meters), it utilizes three specially wound coils:

    • Untuned aerial coil (aluminum, 12 turns)
    • Fixed-coupled secondary coil (copper or phosphor-bronze, 4 turns)
    • Rotatable reaction coil within the secondary (15 turns)

The coils are wound on quartzite rods supported by ebonite rings, with connection terminals attached. The aerial coil is spaced about ½" from the secondary coil.
Tests focused solely on the secondary coil, revealing:

    • Inductance: 10.9 µH
    • H.F. resistance: 0.9 ohm
    • Self-capacity: 2.5 pF

To estimate the tuning range, calculations considered a minimum capacitance of 20pF for a variable condenser and connecting leads. This translates to a minimum wavelength of 27 meters and a maximum of 102 meters.
