Description

Gas filled cold cathode rectifier, mainly used for vibrator power supplies in auto radios.
Improved version of B rectifier.
The original design of the BR was similar to the raytheon R but tipless and with a bakelite base and designed in 1932. The tube was first used in the P.R.Mallory Inc "Elkonode" power supply. Later tubes were improved with a much smaller glass bulb to allow for reduction in space in some car radios by some manufacturers. Stokes shows the smaller tube in a photo on page 115 of his book "70 years of Radio Tubes and Valves"
