Catkin_prototype

Since 1920s British GEC was a leading manufacturer of external anode transmitting tubes, the so called CAT (Cooled-Anode Triode) tubes. In the first half of thirties GEC launched a line of smaller external anode tubes, referred to as Catkin valves. The most powerful Catkin valve was the ACT6, followed by NT39.

Here is a still unbased experimental sample of an ACT6-like power triode. It was fitted with an aluminum finned radiator, very similar to those used many years later for transistor power amplifiers. Who knows that this prototype could not inspire some of the modern audio folks or audiofools.

The sample can be dated around 1935
