This tube is an experimental pentode developed by RCA late in 1929. It is a large tube with an S21 diameter glass bulb. The base pins are the standard UY type but the bakelite was about 45 mm diameter. The grid is connected to the top cap. The tube was not made by GE for industrial release. It is not known why this tube was not released for general use but assumed that, with the reorganization of GE handing over the Harrison plant in New Jersey to RCA that details of it was either lost or, with an output of 4 watts, it may have been deemed too powerful for available needs. A version of the tube is known which has no top cap.
New information has suggested this tube was used as a horizontal output tube in the world's first all electronic Zworykin television, 6 made in 1929 - 10 years before RCA announced their first TV in 1939 at the New York World's Fair.
