Brandes Ltd. was 1908 established in Toronto, Canada; acquired by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1922.

A British subsidiary
Brandes Ltd. was established in 1924 to produce headphones and soon speakers, horns as well as cones.

1926 the parent company was renamed
Kolster Radio Corporation of America.

In 1929 the British branch was renamed to Kolster-Brandes Ltd.

Brandes was a well-known brand for headphones.
