Atlas Radio Co.; Solana Beach, CA, 722-G Genevieve Street, CA 92075-7321 was founded 1974 by Herb Johnson. Bevore he was founding the Swan company in 1961. Herb Johnson was the designer of the main products like the Atlas 215X which used Thor Heyerdahl for his voyage with the reed ship "Tigris". The journey from the river Tigris to the coast of Africa lasted 144 days for those 4200 miles. The Atlas 210X was selected by the crew of "Double Eagle" for their record breaking balloon crossing over the Atlantic and the 350XL were operated in the DX expedition to Clipperton Island and they worked "under the most trying conditions". Mike Casinelli, President of Atlas, claimed that Atlas has made 150 000 sets for HAM's worldwide. Herb Johnson introduced also the "Little Giant", Atlas 400X as the third generation Atlas Radio.
