Description

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
The Golden Gate Railroad Museum is a non-profit railroad museum in California that is dedicated to the preservation of steam and passenger railroad equipment, as well as the interpretation of local railroad history.

Established in 1975, the museum was previously located in San Francisco and until recently was situated at the Hunters Point Shipyard. In 2007 the museum moved its collection of 12 locomotives and over 25 pieces of rolling stock to home of the Niles Canyon Railway in Sunol, California. The museum performs restoration work on its collection, which it showcases for special events.

The Niles Canyon Railway (NCRy) is a heritage railway running through Niles Canyon, between Sunol and the Niles district of Fremont in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area, in California, USA. The railway is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Niles Canyon Transcontinental Railroad Historic District.
Trains are operated by the Pacific Locomotive Association which preserves, restores and operates historic railroad equipment. The NCRy features public excursions with both steam and diesel locomotives along a well-preserved portion of the First Transcontinental Railroad.

The Pacific Locomotive Association has 8 steam and 13 diesel locomotives, and over 40 pieces of rolling stock.
