Name: Indiana Mfg. & Elec. Co.; Marian, Indiana (Pre-1929)    (USA)
Brand:
Hyperdyne
Abbreviation: indiana
Products: Model types
Summary:

The Indiana Manufacturing & Electric Company was located at 600 Case Block in Marion, Indiana.

Trade Name: Case, Hyperdyne

Production: 1923 - 1928
History:
The Indiana Manufacturing & Electric Company began producing Case radios in 1923. By 1927 the company realized it needed a RCA license to be able to continue building TRF radios but was too small to be able to afford the $100,000 minimum royalty RCA required for their TRF patent license. Since they were not the only small company in this situation they came up with a solution by banding together with four other small radio manufactures. Indiana Manufacturing & Electric Co. combined on August 20, 1927 with Apex Electric, Sentinel, Slagle and Workrite to form the United States Electric Corporation so the new company could purchase the RCA license collectively. The companies continued business as divisions of the United States Electric Co. This merger was not to last when by January 1928, one of the companies failed.(presumably Workrite)
Indiana Manufacturing & Electric then decided to combine with the Apex Electric Manufacturing Co. and two of their sales agencies to form the United States Radio & Television Corporation on November 30, 1928. It is believed that it was at this time that Indiana Manufacturing & Electric changed the companies name to Case Electric Corp. U.S. Radio & TV continued until 1932 when the company merged with Grunow to form the General Household Utilities. The assests of Case Electric Corp. was eventually purchased by Majestic Radio & Television Corp. in 1937.
