Wavetek Corporation, San Diego, CA, was founded in 1962. Wavetek was a privately owned designer, manufacturer, and distributor of a broad range of electronic test instruments, with a primary focus on application-specific instruments for testing voice, video and data communications equipment and networks. For its fiscal year ended September 30,1997, Wavetek had worldwide revenue of $155 million with operating income and profit of $20.5 million.

After Dr. Terence J. Gooding acquire Wavetek in 1991, and prior to the consummation of the Exchange Transaction, Wavetek completed the adquisition of the instrumentation products division of Beckman Industrial in 1992.

On September 30, 1998, San Diego-based Wavetek Corp. was being merged into Wandel & Goltermann Management Holding GmbH. Wandel & Goltermann, a privately owned company based in Eningen, Germany, is a leading provider of communications test solutions for the data communications and telecommunications markets with technology focuses in analog and digital telephony, ISDN, enterprise networks, signaling systems, quality of service test and fiber optics. For its fiscal year ended September 30, 1997, the company reported worldwide revenue of 474 million DM with operating income and net income of 37.1 million DM.

Wavetek later became the name of Willtek Communications GmbH or was merged or stripped. Names like Fluke, Idealindustries and Pro-Nova are involved. Yokogawa Electric Corporation, in a bid to penetrate deeper into the communications test and measurement market, has entered into a capital tie-up with Wavetek Corporation. 

Gründung und Wachstum: Seit Juli 2005 ist Willtek Communications eine 100 %ige Tochtergesellschaft der Wireless Telecom Group, Inc. Willtek Communications entstand im Mai 2002 nach einem Management-Buyout aus der Wireless Instruments Operation (WIO), dem Mobilfunk-Geschäftsbereich von Acterna. Doch reichen die Wurzeln des Unternehmens bis in das Jahr 1957 zurück. Firmen wie Solartron, Schlumberger, Wavetek, Wavetek Wandel Goltermann und Acterna sind Firmen in diesem Verbund gewesen oder noch versammelt.
