After working for different companies, Richard S. Burwen founded 'Burwen Laboratories Inc.' in his basement in Lexington, Massachusetts. Along beeing a well respected consultant he developed devices to reduce noise from audio reproduction in competition to Dolby. When production started the company moved to nearby Burlington, Massachusetts around 1972. In 1976 KLH in Cambridge, Massachusetts took over the production under the name 'KLH Burwen'.

Richard S. Burwen is still active as Burwen Technology, Inc., 12 Holmes Road, Lexington, MA 02420-1917.
