atwater: Atwater Kent 30
Need a source for the drive belts and condenser shaft pulleys for an Atwater Kent Model 30
I understand there are 2 flexable metal belts and are pre formed to proper length
Any information would be appreciated
You can purchase the replacement phosphor bronze belts from Adams Radio. If you're lucky, you can solder a belt back together using a 'patch' made from thin brass or phosphor bronze as long as the patch is very short (1/4 inch or 6 mm.) so that it's not stressed as it travels over the curved outside of the pulley. That's how I fixed the ones on my Model 30.
The pulleys are rather more difficult to obtain, but you can find brass replacements from later Atwater Kent models on eBay from time to time. It seems that the original die-cast metal ones (I believe they're called pot-metal here in US) deteriorate over the years by expanding and/or distorting and cracking. I know that may seem strange, but it's a well documented defect. I think I may even have a spare brass pulley here somewhere, because I bought three at a flea market several years ago and only needed two.
I hope this explanation goes some way to help you.
Kind regards and season's greetings,
Thanks for the info Stan, I went to Adams Radio and for $30 the belt problem is solved,
As a matter of fact, all three "Pot Pulleys" on my AK 30 were totatly wasted. Although I do have 2 brass pulleys, from another AK I salvaged for one of the interstage transformers.
I guess I will have to leave the radio as a "work in progress" until I find another AK ready for the salvage yard
Between the open transformers and the pot metal pulleys, restoring some AK's can be a challange.
Thanks again for the info and for your timely response to my post.
