Does anybody know if a 6005 can be used for a replacement for a EL95?
Is there a reason that radios in the 60's stopped using EL84's and started using tubes like, EL95, ELL80, ECL86,etc........?
Perhaps Herr Knoll could explain this.

Just out of experiance, has anybody subbed a 6005 for an EL95?
If it were subbed, in let's say a Grundig 5490, would it damage the output transformer?
I understand that the 6005 uses more current (100%).

Dear Hans,
Thank you so much for including me in the posting; however, I come come from the old school (remember I told you about Mr Kirst, my physics, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry teacher) that accepts the original design as being QUITE ACCEPTABLE.
For the EL95, I replace them always with the EL95; for the ELL80 I use the ELL80.
I was curious to know that when testing some eye tubes,it is recommended to use the 1M ohm or 2M ohm resistor across certain pins; however, I presume there is no requirement to "bridge" across pins 2 and 5.

Thank you so very much for the charts, Herr Knoll. It is very interesting to note the correlation of ELL80 and EL95 usage.

Thank you very much Herr Knoll for the extensive graph!
Much appreciated!
Just out of curiousity, what was the reason that they stopped using EL84's in the 1960's?
What are the advantages of using let's say an EL95, ELL80, or ECL86, than an EL84?
